Sunstone Risk Solutions GmbH, formally founded in November 2018, is a limited-liability company registered in Switzerland (company registration number CHE-130.556.544).
Malcolm Haylock, Co-Founder and Director.
Malcolm has a strong background in geophysical and weather-related perils, with a degree in geophysics and meteorology and a PhD in statistical climatology from the University of East Anglia, U.K. He worked for 15 years as a researcher for two government research centres in Australia, focusing on historical and expected future changes in Australian climate as well as seasonal forecasting of temperature and precipitation. He then moved to the U.K. to complete his PhD and continue research into expected changes in extreme rainfall under climate change and has authored over 30 publications in international peer-reviewed scientific journals. In 2007 he took up a position with PartnerRe as a catatrophe model developer, responsible initially for their in-house European windstorm model but then broadening into leadership of all the wind-related perils. In 2015 Malcolm moved to Aspen Re, heading their research programme into natural catastrophe risk and leading their in-house team of scientific and engineering experts. During that time, much analysis was done into the application of vendor models across the company, including detailed studies into understanding the assumptions and methodology of such models and their customisation for commercial application.
